Psoriasis is a skin condition in which the surface layers of skin rapidly build up cells to form thick, tough patches that could resemble scales. The condition can affect a person at any stage of life, but is usually considered to be a chronic condition. According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms wax and wane over long periods of time, sometimes appearing very boldly on the surface of the skin and other times subsiding to a mild redness.
