Therapy Horses Visit Residents at Sunrise of River Road

Caregivers and physical therapists have been using animals to help older adults and people living with disabilities for decades. Dogs, horses, cats and even rabbits provide comfort and companionship to many adults enrolled in assistive services, especially seniors living in retirement communities.

At Sunrise of River Road in Arizona, residents are visited on the first Friday of each month by Buddy and Snickers, two horses that are part of the organization Step Up Into T.L.C. Both Buddy and Snickers alternate their time between the residence’s Assisted Living and Reminiscence Neighborhoods.
